Saint Mildred Outreach Saint Mildred¡¦s Outreach Mission began in 1975 with a simple mission of ¡§Building the Kingdom of God-feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and healing the sorrowful.¡¨ It has evolved over the years to a more formal mission of ¡§Empowering families and enhancing spiritual growth, self-esteem, and general well-being, towards achievement of a family unit that is self- sustaining.¡¨ The families and individuals served by Outreach have experienced multiple losses resulting in grief that affects the total well-being of the family and individual. The purpose of Outreach is to find a way to build hope, renew faith, and find the love of Christ in each individual and family. Services include assisting with homelessness, food, clothing, utilities and additional needs as identified during the assessment and based on financial resources and funding. Individuals and families must be assessed at the Outreach office. ’ã Phyllis Wortman or Mary Guffey ”k 203 S. This means that basic outpatient medical procedures are out of reach for millions of Americans. Surgery on Sunday, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides essential outpatient surgical services for free for those in need who cannot afford insurance and who are not eligible for federal or state programs. Patients are referred from existing organizations in the community and receive much needed surgical procedures. Our services are provided by doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to reach out to those in need. If you need medical assistance and wonder if you qualify for our program, please check out the Referral Agencies link to find agencies in your area. If you are a member of the medical community and would like to become involved with our program and donate your time please check out the Volunteer section for information. Surgery On Sunday is a proud partner of United Way of the Bluegrass. Dependent on the generosity of private foundations and donors to help clients receive the surgeries they require, Surgery On Sunday is also honored to receive funding from The Samaritan Foundation, Rotary Club of Lexington, Fayette County Medical Society, and The Keeneland Foundation. ***************************************************************************** MEDICAL HELP If you know anyone in either of these nine counties who can't afford to go to a doctor http://www.bereahealthministry.com/index.html Service Area Our nine county service area includes Clark, Clay, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Laurel, Madison, Powell, and Rockcastle counties in Kentucky

Elder Abuse Awareness

Elder abuse is often a silent crime. Most of us never see it because most victims are abused behind closed doors by their own family members. And, too often, people who do see it choose not to get involved because it’s “none of my business.” The law says it’s our business. Kentucky is a mandatory reporting state. (Reference KRS 209.030) If you suspect elder abuse, you are legally required to report it. You can report abuse at the 24 hour toll free hotline 1-800-752-6200, calls can be made anonymously

Pulaski County Alzheimer's Respite Center

The Pulaski County Alzheimer's Center is a social model for respite care. The program is open to any person being cared for in a home setting who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia disorder. Alzheimer's is a progressive, degenerative disease that attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking and behavior. The goals of the Center are to * Provide services to Alzheimer's patients and their families * Provide respite for care-givers from the often 24-hour day of care-giving * Provide up to 6 hours per week of respite care for our in-home clients * Provide up to 7 hours per day of respite care for our in-center clients ( 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) * Provide activities for our clients that promote mental stimulation * Encourage clients to interact with each other and our staff * Provide activities including crafts, appropriate exercise, games, tea parties, birthday parties, singing, hair styling, manicures, watching television/movies, and pet therapy A well balanced hot meal planned by a nutritionist to meet each client's individual needs is provided along with a daily snack. Our Center is licensed by the State of Kentucky which requires a one staff member to 5 client ratio. ’ã Pat Brinson, Executive Director or Karen Page, Assistance Executive Director ”k 125 University Drive - Somerset, 42503 –æ 606-679-9310 –æ “t 606-679-4870
